The story behind ‘Firefly’ is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel ‘The Killer Angels’ by Michael Shaara. It tells a story of Union and Confederate soldiers during the American Civil War. The idea inspired Whedon to illustrate the way that post-war life affects soldiers who were on the losing side, and he did this through Captain Malcolm.
