As Meryl Streep read the script for ‘Kramer vs. Kramer’ she felt that the portrayal of her character, a mother in the middle of an awful divorce, was “too evil.” She insisted on revising the script and character. She wanted the film to be more representative of real women who faced the harrowing ordeal of child custody battles and the crumbling of marriages.
