Romanticism or the Romantic period was an artistic, literary, musical and intellectual movement that originated in Europe toward the end of the 18th century. It was the first time in the history of art that landscapes became an important subject in paintings. If we look at the literature of the period we can also see the connection between emotions and the landscape, for example storms often mimic emotive scenes in novels.
