The word “dingbat” has had a number of ridiculously diverse meanings over the years. In 1838 it referred to a drink, in 1911 it was used to describe a “nut case,” by 1921 it was an ornamental object and by the 1970s it was back to being used as slang for “insanity.” Suffice to say, the bizarre origin of the word makes it the perfect title for these confusing riddles.
