Did you know that Mickey Mouse was originally going to be called Mortimer? Walt Disney suggested it to his wife who thankfully didn’t feel the name matched the lovable mouse’s personality. Mortimer later became Mickey’s nemesis who appeared sporadically in some of the early short films. You could say he was the first major background character.
